No harm in checking it out, right? AOPi is a great sorority and very strong nationally. I've heard a house could be coming in the next year or so, too (again, strong national org = a lot of support to new colonies). I'm in another sorority so obviously I can't join, but I'm really excited that ISU is expanding greek life. You'd also get to be a member of the AOPi charter class, which is pretty cool. Check it out and see what its all about. Good luck!

Totally agree with everything they said^
In addition, I have noticed a few things about charter sororities at various universities...

Con: It seems like when a new sorority comes onto campus its harder to reign in the new members with confusion and/or partying. When you join an sorority thats been at a university for a number of years, they have traditions, image on campus, and upperclassmen as well as local alum to assist with events, fundraising, overall connection. Especially when things like bid day roll around a lot of the new members (even first year members) look to the upperclassmen to show them how its done and to also bring a sense of excitement and pride. I graduated a few years ago and i was still up all-night cheering my sisters on and getting live updates from my little. I'm not saying a charter class doesn't have that... They have national, Alum from the state and neighboring sororities to assist with getting the new class comfortable, excited and informed, but there may be 2 years or so of a transitional period. One other thing I've noticed is that the girls go a little wild party/rules because they don't have the consistent upperclassmen who have already been-there-done-that to show them the ropes.

Pro: Having a clean slate can be a positive too. Since there are no past mistakes of classes before you and no negative image/stereotypes established within the community, if you were to join the charter class you and your sisters would be the ones entirely deciding who AOPi is to ISU. It can turn out to be a really bonding experience most classes don't get within their sorority; instead of following tradition, you are making it.

In addition to AOPi (im just assuming you didnt go through Formal recruitment), check out some of the informal recruitment events sororities will be putting on in a couple of weeks (maybe even sooner).
No matter which route you choose, i highly recommend looking into all your options because college is entirely too short.
