I know it seems like just preparing for rush to research all of this right now, I did it too before rush. I can honestly say I wish I did not look on this site or take anyone else's considerations into forming my own thoughts on each sorority. It definitely had an influence that I wish it did not, I prefed a sorority that I didn't really like because I was afraid of the reputations of others. Honestly just go into rush without any of this in your mind and choose the sorority that you feel most comfortable in. You are in this for four years, (& much longer after) you do not want to pick one because you think it is known as "cool" or "smart" or "pretty", you want to pick one you can actually enjoy yourself at.

It doesn't matter whether you like them or not...they have to like YOU to get a bid. So it's not up to you, it's up to them.

P.s. Tri delt sucks but they give bids to everyone so you'll be fine with that one

So I am going to give you the advice I wish someone had given me before I rushed:

1. Find the house you feel most comfortable, and can truly see fitting in;

2. The poster above does have a point, the house has to like you, too- mutual selection and all...

3. Chi O, DZ, and ZTA are all extremely strong nationally, as well as on the ISU campus. Phi Sigs are strong at ISU, but overall weak nationally.

4. Go where you feel comfortable and get invites, but if all things are being equal for you, I would chose one of the stronger national houses. If you really want this to be "for life" and all... Chi O/DZ/ZTA have tons of alum groups, and alumnae all over the country. Phi Sig, not so much. Not because it's a bad sorority (so don't take that as a bash, Phi Sigs), but because it's smaller and it is not at as many campuses. And they don't have a lot of alum groups around the country as a whole. (My source for this is my best friend who is a PSS alum).\n\n\n\n\ntl;dr version: I'd go with Chi O/DZ/ZTA assuming you like them AND they like you, because they are houses with a stronger national presence. Go for Phi Sig if you truly love the women and the house on the ISU campus.

Tri Delt is also extremely strong nationally. I forgot to mention them. I'd go for them over Phi Sig, as well.

I don't know if there are reputations, per say. The sororities are def divided into tiers and that's how Greek life views them.

Top: chi o, DZ, ZTA
Middle: phi sig, Tri delt, AGD, g phi
Lower: adpi, Tri sig, pi phi, aopi

And although there are tiers, you need to choose a house based on where you feel most comfortable. You will only have a great experience if you choose the place where you'll meet your best friends. You want to be able to laugh till you cry, use each other's closets, share your deepest secrets, and find your future bridesmaids. I know this sounds cheesy, but it's true. As for the social part of being in a sorority, you will honestly have a good experience regardless of which one you choose. The frats pretty much party with all houses. Some frats and sororitys are closer, but that doesn't mean that they exclude the other sororities.

Hopefully this helps. Good luck!
