I wonder who is going to get their house. Rumours are that the school is going to buy it.

By: John Gruden
by: Asdf

I've heard Phi Mu is going to try to buy it since they are losing their house to Kappa Sig, but I've also heard AGD is interested too. 🙈

On a Friday in April, members of the chapter had held a party with alcohol in the chapter's house, with new members present. An individual made a recording at the party, and that was sent to OGL which then contacted SigEp headquarters.

IFC had no role in any of this.

Because of a hazing investigation after an investigation into alcohol. There were two unrelated investigations that happened almost back-to-back. Their nationals has a rule against any kind of pledgeship, so when they got caught for hazing pledges, they got kind of double-screwed.

"Family, friends, and alumni. As many of you may know the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at East Carolina University has been officially closed. Founded in 1961 here at East Carolina, we have always strived to produce the best possible gentlemen, provide safe and social activities, and to give back to our community and our philanthropies. Those who received the email from our National headquarters, were unfortunately misled. The actions of a few brothers, some of whom have moved on in life and no longer are associated with the fraternity, were included in the reasoning for our chapter's closure. These dates of allegations were traced back to 2010, before our oldest active member had even graduated high school. We as the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon do not post this to ask for forgiveness nor pity, but to let everyone know that we will be closing our doors, and we will be falling on the sword together, as one. We want to express that our Nationals cannot and will not ever be able to destroy the friendships and brotherhood that WE have created at East Carolina University, simply because it doesn't fit their business model. SigEp NC Kappa wishes the brothers, both graduated and still in school, the best of luck in future endeavors and to not fall apart, but come together and continue our friendship that we have accumulated over the years. This, my brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon at East Carolina University, is the true meaning HFF."

So basically the national frat had some long standing grudge against the local chapter and took this opportunity to cancel their charter and sell the property to the university.

Sounds fishy.

For those of you former SigEps who are posting, did you serve on your exec board? Run your recruitment? Chair your Greek Week? Attend Carlsons? Ruck? Applied to Quest to Greece? Thinking of joining a national committee?

Because it seems to me that you're awfully good at talking about what you perceive to be wrong, so you should do something about it. I'm curious as to whether or not you've tried to change it, or you just like talking about it. The thing that most people seem to forget is that Headquarters does not run SigEp. SigEps run Headquarters.

And if you have an issue with how something is run, is it more effective to point out shortcomings or to run it yourself?

The only man that keeps you down is you.

Dear Brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon, This was a most unfortunate decision by national. I cannot help but feel you were shortchanged in being measured for the actions of those who passed through Sig Ep years before you. I know your members to be fine young men. Wish you all continued friendship in the years ahead. So sorry for the new members who had not had time to fully know or understand the true bonds of brotherhood. It is my hope that you will all continue to experience all that is good. May you all find great purpose in your remaining time at East Carolina. "The address to family, friends and alumni" was well articulated and captures the spirit of brotherhood that will endure long past the official Sig Ep Charter. Best Wishes to all of you !

No one is "owed" an explanation. They would not shut down a successful chapter without a good reason(s).

The fact that a helicopter mom is on Greekrank of all places, indicates the entitled attitude felt by some current college students. They think everything will be taken care of them and thus feel no responsibility. They closed the chapter because your son was not raised right. Deal with it.

The rumor I heard is that national was trying to 'cleanse' the house and used behavior as a means to do it. Hate to say this but its happened at other campuses as well. Nationals are willing to take a 5 year hit and close down rather than deal with a mix of students that don't work for them. It's all about the money all the time with the nationals except in the case of house composition. I honestly think its pathetic that the national and the local could not have worked together to effectively manage the probation situation. I agree with the post above that this is house business and as such should remain private.

In the years since the chapter’s closure and subsequent appeal in 2010, Sigma Phi Epsilon North Carolina Kappa has been the source of nearly annual hazing and risk management incidents. The fraternity staff and numerous volunteers, many of whom are East Carolina alumni, have provided consistent support during that time focused on SigEp's Balanced Man Program and risk management. However, the staff recently learned of more examples of hazing and risk management violations that occurred during the 2016-17 academic year. Unfortunately, as these repeated violations show, the East Carolina chapter fell dramatically short of Sig Ep's commitment to help men strengthen their character, build leadership and interpersonal skills, and learn to develop healthy, lifelong relationships that are essential to a successful and fulfilling life.

Why does the alumni facebook say that nationals lied to everybody?

By: why
by: cuz

Because they did lie about chapter business in the letter they sent out to parents and alumni - and then leaked the contents to the media.
