I’ve met a few amazing people through Greek life at this school, but the overall culture of Greek life here could use some serious work. A lot of people here try to act as if they’re better than everyone else, but they can’t pull it off without looking like try-hards because they’re not actually as cool (in the conventional sense) as people at schools with more established Greek systems. It’s sad because UAH Greek life could actually be really great if it took the route of doubling down on what it actually is, a group of more nerdy people who also like to have a good time. That, however, would involve being open, accepting, kind, and most importantly not extremely cliquish. I’m glad that we don’t have a lot of the more toxic elements of Greek life that are common at bigger schools, but we’ve replaced it with assessing people’s worth by the number of clubs that they’re in or whether they’re an orientation leader. People in Greek life here are also ridiculously uptight and judgmental. If you’re new to the school and looking to find your niche, I’d suggest looking elsewhere unless you meet their skewed definition of perfection.
