Take away the population of penn kids that either can’t afford to constantly go out or are just complete nerds with no interest in going out, and the rest of the penn population is heavily involved in Greek life. A smaller subset of kids tend to find friends through sports teams or clubs, but the majority of the social ones are also in an IFC or Panhellenic group. Most people in these circles have to be well connected to get into these groups or have the right high school and zip code on their info sheet. Since formal rush happens in the spring there is the chance to dirty rush throughout the fall and try to social climb into some of these organizations but the people that do this tend to be really noticeable and are generally thought of as quite annoying. The top party invites happen more on an individual basis like if you’re cool and know people so being in a certain group doesn’t guarantee your social success and not being in one but still knowing people still works.
