Comment: While the jury is still out on whether recolonization "worked", I think most people who have seen frats in the U.S. recolonized as dry houses by unsucessful boomer alums are mortified to see this come to Toronto. Colonies are essentially a pyramid scheme run by nationals. They get unsuccessful, loyal-to-the-shield alum with nothing better to do to start the scam. The recolonizing class is financially and socially pressured into recruiting more socially inept freshmen who aren't smart enough to lead successful campus organizations into joining a "social fraternity." The national fraternity pockets $300 per initiate while banning the from drinking or anything fun in order to any and all avoid financial risk on their end. It sucks that this is irreversible - once a frat like Phi Delt heads down this road there isn't going back, and you wonder who will be next. DU and Beta nationals are officially dry, so they're not far from Phi Delt. Even TDX - the glorious drunkards they've always been - have attracted unwelcome attention from their nationals. Greekland might well be majority dry in a few years.
