Author:  Left Real Fast

Comment:  I was a part of this chapter for just under a year and left after many months of being bullied and deliberating whether leaving was worth losing the few friends i actually did make (all who ended up leaving before me which led to my decision to follow suit) I joined because they seemed to preach sisterhood and their community presence with their 5 Philanthropies. However, we did little volunteer work, which was the main appeal for me and I was disappointed. Many girls bullied me for not matching their appearance standards at Letters, for not owning or being able to afford mandatory outfits for events or rush, not having similar interests in more girly aspects such as makeup, boys, and partying. Leadership was fickle and changed often due to scandals or poor grades. Overall, there was little support for those like me who experienced lots and lots of discrimination and exclusion. I only talked to make 2 girls regularly, and tried reaching out to Alumnae and officers for guidance but was pretty much ignored. Leadership and poor management drove my two friends out, which gave me no reason to stay. Overall, I regret paying so much money, gave so much time, just to allow these superficial, pretentious people make me feel awful about myself. I joined a smaller, nonGreek frat on campus, that was way cheaper, that had much higher quality people. I would not recommend sorority life for those who dislike the stereotype of the party scene. Also, I was not allowed to bring a female friend to a formal event, and was told by an officer I needed to bring not only a male, but a male from another Greek org, and that’s just bothered me ever since. For anyone LGBTQIA+, I was saddened they were not more open-minded and accepting as they said they were.
