Comment: As a recent beta graduate, I find this very difficult to write, however my concerns span more than just my four year tenure in this fraternity. Beta has always been near and dear to my heart. Rushing my first year was my best experience to date, the e-board was full of classy men and the brotherhood was something I will cherish for the rest of my life. Sadly, once the founders graduated, everything went down hill. As I grew in the fraternity, more members who I thought should not have been able to join, were thrown bids left and right. The worst of it came with the 2017 fall semester rush class, where everyone who rushed received a bid. Now it is no surprise that at this point, Beta was not in a good spot. We had very low member participation, and often times the wrong people were the ones who were promoting the Beta name to potential members. We gained only a few new members, but they were definitely not top picks. By the time I left, everything I had helped to build came slowly crashing down. Even members who did not pass the initial rush made it in without any trouble. It is very deeply concerning to me that the voting process failed as miserably as it did, and it seems to me that the importance of numbers surpassed the need for quality. I graduated as a Beta and never looked back, but who would ever want to pay a cover charge for their own fraternity social events. Hopefully, with the new rush year approaching things will change. I have high hopes for the new eboard, but unfortunately, that is only a small portion of the fraternity's say.
