Comment:  I’m going to be as honest as I can about Sigma Chi, as a guy in another fraternity considered below them and about to graduate. The reason Sigma Chi is so hated by other fraternities is because they achieved the impossible: in the span of less than 7 years after rechartering in 2007, they managed to jump from being a bottom tier chapter with ~60 guys to a perennial powerhouse with 175+ members. The barriers to entry for new chapters at UT are absurdly high: we have almost 30 fraternities yet no one really cares about anyone beyond the top 6, yet somehow Sigma Chi was able to make it happen. And it wasn’t done with money or connections or a historical mansion of a fraternity house, it was by attracting go-getters, smart dudes, and guys that sorority girls really like. They shook the system up and made everyone bitter that the couldn’t do the same thing. As recently as 2011 they were competing with Pi Kapp for rushees; now they’re taking guys who would end up otherwise in places like Delt/KA/SigEp/ZBT. They’ve done a great job building their chapter up from almost nothing and are reaping the benefits.
