Comment:  Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has been providing leadership in the African American communities, since its inception (1908), as the first African American Sorority. The community involvement aspect (mentoring young ladies, tutoring, helping young single mothers, providing scholarships, partnering with neighborhood organizations, etc.,) of the sisterhood far out weighs the social aspects of the organization, even though the social aspects have provided broad networking systems for college grads.
