I can vouch for the claim that they promise bids before recruitment that aren't given on bid day, and then try to talk those girls (who may be given bids by other sororities) into waiting for fall rush to get in again. Chances are, if they don't want you as a freshman, you have less of a chance getting a bid as an upperclassman. It's just a mean scam.
