Its not that they don't hang out or don't have events....its that they literally spend all their time talking bad about other girls in their sorority. Theres cliques in each pledge class and they don't filter what they say about other cliques, especially around other affiliated girls. I'm not saying cliques don't exist in every organization, they just are very public about the girls they don't like....
