The above information isn't false. The only thing I'd like to clarify is that the very first year the groups switched to not running their own girls all the presidents met without the DG president and we were later told (I wasn't here, my sister told me) it was either run in the block vote or be against every other sorority. At the time, the DG advisors (that's who's making all the decision, not the actual members) felt that a block vote would for sure keep anyone not greek from ever making the court, and that wasn't a fair representation. If the sororities block voted an independent would probably never be voted on. So they told us we were running our own girls. It was never meant to be an us against them thing, it just got blown way out proportion and people saw it as an attack and backing out of greek unity. There are a lot of DG's that wish we didn't run our own girls just because of the crap we get for it, when we were never asked what we wanted to do (I did join the chapter by this point). But, we aren't going to abandon our girls once nominated either. I personally, and I know PLENTY of girl in every sorority who would agree, wish we voted like Ole Miss or Auburn, where there is a committee and everyone can run X number of girls. It would kill the drama and make election day less of a heIl for everyone.
