I stumbled upon this website today since my daughter just completed rush at Mississippi State. I was searching for information on her new sorority because I’m excited to begin this endeavor with her. I have zero Greek knowledge and WOW….did I go down a rabbit hole. My thoughts: 1. We are from out of state and when my daughter chose Mississippi State over the “popular” state schools in our home state people were shocked and sometimes gave her not so nice opinions on MSU. She blocked them out stuck with her heart and chose to go to the school that she felt was home. 2. She chose Mississippi State because this school has made a HUGE push to offer the smartest kids in other states a LOT of money to attend, so she passed on a home state college and took her full ride. She personally knows a few other girls that made the same choice because of scholarship opportunities. 3. She went into rush with no Greek knowledge, no idea about reputations of sororities - both nationally and within the state of Mississippi, and thankfully I don't think she knows about this website. She carefully chose what she felt was right for her and was neutral. In fact, I realized today she dropped a "top tier" (according to this discussion page) the first day because it wasn't for her. 4. Was the process easy…no. She struggled a bit and tried to listen as she visited the houses to see where she felt most comfortable but, in the end, she made her choice and we are hoping it will be right for her. 5. Her final choice is a “bottom tier” sorority according to this discussion page. Her other friends who are also smart, beautiful, outgoing, well respected, "popular", and leaders at their respective high schools also received bids from the “bottom tier” sororities per this page. All 4 are THRILLED to just be part of a sorority and be part of the sisterhood that is proudly displayed during rush week. I would like to say that before people who obviously are so invested in the Greek system beat down what they supposedly love they should consider that smart, “non-legacy”, and out of state girls don’t know or care about all the talk on this page. My daughter has loved every second of her time at MSU so far. This school is going above and beyond to recruit smart kids in other states and it’s becoming a very solid and reputable choice. I would hate for girls to stumble upon this website prior to recruitment and it deter them from participating in the Greek system because of something said here. All it will do is hurt the MSU Greek System you all love so much. Success lies in the future to keep it strong. I'm so happy my daughter made her choice and I know that her new sorority is lucky to get her.
