Wrong. It had to do with the number of actual members. Chi O, KD, and DG were the largest and were therefore allowed smaller pledge classes. The smaller sororities were allowed larger pledge classes. The idea is to eventually even out the sizes so that all 8 sororities have approximately the same number of members. In the past, KD, DG, and Chi O could give out about 100 bids. With variable quota, they could only give out about 80 bids. That's about 60 girls who would have otherwise pledged DG, KD, or Chi O who had to pledge other sororities or drop out of rush. Personally, I think it's a great idea and will stop those 3 from being so much larger and powerful. It may take a few years, but it will work. All sororities benefitted from it, but it just made it even more difficult to get a bid from one of the Top 3.
