Have you looked at the list of student organizations on State's website? They are listed under Colvard Student Union. Yes getting a spot in some organizations is incredibly hard but others don't require an interview process and are open to anyone like S.E.R.V.I.C.E. DAWGS and a new group Feed the Hunger. Every major or department has clubs or organizations you can become a part of too. There are political organizations, religious organizations, and recreational groups that are open to all. It's normal to have 250-300 or more people interview for a small number of spots (20-30) in the most desired organizations like Roadrunners, Fashion Board, and freshman organizations, etc. The process can be frustrating and dent your self-esteem for sure! I suggest trying departmental groups and service organizations working with the Starkville community. Sure you can go talk to the Dean of Students as Pink suggests. I don't see neopotism instead I see huge numbers of smart, high achieving, outgoing leaders interviewing for a limited number of spots. It's reality.
