APhi was reorganized ("revitalized" in national-speak) in 1998 because they were a weak-recruiting chapter with the smallest numbers on campus. You can look it up in old Maneaters online, but they had something like 40 members when national stepped in. It was very controversial at the time, and there were lots of hurt feelings, threats of lawsuits, etc., but it was what was needed to keep the chapter from having to close completely and wait a potentially very long time to recolonize. The revitalization strategy also saved APhi's chapters at Cornell, Duke, and UVA. All three are considered upper-middle to top chapters today.
