Grades are important because they will determine whether you make the initial cut. But that's on paper. In real life, no matter how high your grades, conversation is what will get you asked back over and over. And while it's almost too late to do anything about your grades, you can do a lot to polish your conversational skills. Rule No. 1: be VERY interested in whomever you are talking to. Ask questions. Follow up on their questions. No one-word answers. Make eye contact. Smile.
