The poster above me is almost right. Let's say quota is 90. That means every house is allowed to take 90 new members. However, it's possible that someone would attend preference at three houses, and all three of those houses get those 90 before matching that someone. She would go without a bid in that case, except that's when a quota addition is used. It is used by the campus FSA (Fraternity/Sorority Advisor) to help place women who did everything right and would otherwise have been cross-cut. Houses don't know when someone is a QA, and they don't get to decide whether or not to take QAs. They are automatically assigned. Also, a house could be over total and still get QAs. Bottom line - PNMs don't need to worry about QAs (and neither do actives) except when deciding whether they want to maximize their options after preference. The only PNMs who will get a second chance to get a bid through a QA is someone who maximizes her options. :) But you'll never know whether you were a QA or not!
