First of all, it's not hazing new members. There is nothing wrong with an organization requiring its members to work on a project that is a priority for the organization. Plus, it is hugely helpful in team building and helps new members get to know each other. Second, it is a contribution that the Greek community makes that helps make Mizzou a better place to be. If you had been here the year ESPN broadcast Game Day from our campus (as I was when my older brother was a sophomore here), you would know that our homecoming celebration is second to none and we received national attention for it. It's no wonder that in successive years applications to Mizzou skyrocketed. I can't think of a better cause than supporting our school. Also, most sororities are rolling in money. We have dues and membership fees from hundreds of women who don't live in the house and our house budgets reflect that. Homecoming is in the budget and it's well worth the money. We have philanthropies all year long and homecoming doesn't take anything away from those worthwhile causes. And, finally, it's fun! I have to say I have never been as proud as when I have taken family members and friends who visit during homecoming all around Greektown to show what we can do when we work together.
