The people who say it really helps to know someone in a house who will have your back are really looking for an excuse as to why they were cut. "I didn't have anyone in the house pulling for me so I got cut," or "All of the girls in their pledge class knew someone in the house so others didn't have a chance." This is total BS. Sororities are looking for the best girls they can find. If you look good on paper, can carry on a conversation and have what they want, you're in. There is not a house in the world where the support of just one member means you are guaranteed a spot (well, unless that girl is the rush chair and she is doing sneaky things).
