1. knowing people helps, a lot. there is a stronger likelihood that you will fall through the cracks if you don't know anyone. if you don't know anyone - get reference letters to as many chapters as you can. I don't think that will be a problem for you considering you say you have a lot of family in greek life. I'm in a top house and don't think i would be if someone I knew hadn't put in a good word for me because I'm also from out of state and didnt have rec letters. 2. when you sign up for rush you have to put if you're a legacy and where. It will not count against you if you're outstanding. Houses like competing to steal each other's legacies if you're an exceptional PNM. if you're an ok PNM and a strong legacy to a different chapter, we might count you out. If you get rec letters you also need to put what houses you're a legacy to, so regardless - we will know. good luck! :)
