That's a pretty common misconception, but one that deserves to be corrected I'm afraid. Per the NPC Manual of Information, the MRABA says: "Once I submit this agreement, I am bound by the National Panhellenic Conference Unanimous Agreements, which state that if I receive an invitation to membership from an organization that I have listed and then do not accept it, I am ineligible to be pledged until the beginning of the next primary membership recruitment period on the same campus." You are bound for a year if you decline a bid after formal recruitment, but are only bound until the next formal recruitment if you decline a bid at any other time. We say "one year" because it's easier than saying "until next formal recruitment" and it's usually in August that this is an issue. Those who get bids during COB, accept them, and then decline them, WILL be eligible to participate in formal recruitment in August.
