It just depends on your criteria. Money drives it (as it does with most things in life). The more money a national organization has the more man power, more chapters and more success. Chi O might have the most chapters (quantity) but that's because they never close struggling chapters--- decrease in quality. KD and Phi Mu do dominate the south, but that doesn't mean they just suck everywhere else. Both have solid chapters in the northeast and ivy league schools. Say what you want about schools that are "southern" sororities, but thats where most greeks are. Greek life is nowhere as strong or prestigious as the SEC. Alpha Phi, DG, DZ all have strong presence nationally in that most people have heard of them. Chapters like pi phi and theta are strong sparatically, but go to any SEC school and they're nothing to brag about. ADPi and Phi Mu started it all in 1851 and 1852. They are the reason for the rest, have the longest traditions and strongest status. Despite where they actually fall nationally, they are both very similar and are typically considered powerhouses at most universities and nationally. They both have a great reputation and are known for being values-based. For me it's : Chi O, ADPi, APhi, KD, DG, Phi Mu, & Tri Delt BUT.... Ultimately YOU decide which organization is the strongest because you decide which one you BELIEVE the most in. If you join for "status" instead of values you'll never really grasp the point.
