Actually, in some ways it is not. It truly is in the hands of the sorority, and in some way the PNM is helpless. By rule, she is only allowed to preference a certain number of houses each round, yet any and all houses may cut her for reasons that are really never made clear. However, a house the PNM did NOT preference has the ability to invite her back, and the PNM is required to attend that social the next round or she is dropped from rush. This is why recruitment is so stressful on these girls, and the secrecy involved in the selection process makes it hard to trust the system.
