I came to Mizzou two years ago from way out of state and knew NO ONE. I thought joining a sorority was the best way for me to make friends right away and stick with them for much of my college career. It was the best decision I ever made. I, too, had great grades and lots of honors. I'm not saying I sailed through rush, but it was a great experience. I am a Kappa legacy but I couldn't see myself in that house. Instead I pledged another great house and couldn't be happier. Here is my advice: plan ahead about what you might talk about if there is a lull in the conversation; look your best (but don't do anything weird with your hair or makeup because it won't last in 90-degree heat); SMILE (even when your feet hurt); and ask questions to show you are interested. Quiet people sometimes give off a vibe as if they are aloof, and you don't want that. And give yourself a little pep talk each morning. You have a lot to offer a sorority; now it's time to reach out and try something new. What have you got to lose? If you don't try, you can't win.
