Someone with a 3.1 got just about as many C's as they did A's. I don't know about your school, but in my school getting a C was like getting an F. In order to get into National Honor Society at my school you had to be in the top 25% of the class and that meant having a 3.7 or higher. A 3.1 wouldn't even be the top half of the class where I'm from. Someone who didn't care enough about grades in high school and got a 3.1 is destined to be a grade risk. No top tier houses want to take a grade risk.
