A 3.75 won't cut it in my house, especially since there are so many private schools that hand out A's as long as the tuition check doesn't bounce. We look at recs a lot, and ACTs (which often are on the rec forms). You just can't trust grades or class rank any more. I was stunned to see a girl from Westminster go through rush who graduated with a 3.9 from Westminster and had a 22 on her ACTs. Another was a top student at Nerinx and she had a 23 on her ACTs. That tells you her education wasn't worth the money. Our alums help out a lot during rush, and one of the things they insist on is that we look at the rigor of a school as well as leadership and achievement. It doesn't do any good to participate in a bunch of activities. It's best to excel in a few areas. I know people don't want to hear this, and that there will be lots of thumbs down, but this is just a bit about what goes on behind the scenes at a top house.
