There are very very few houses that do not participate in COB. Aside from those couple houses and the bottom tier houses that need more girls like mentioned above, all the other houses do "quiet" COBing. GPhi, APhi, AXO, KD, ADPi, DG, ZTA, etc. - all of those houses COB and only accept a handful of girls. Some of the houses listed do not necessarily need more girls to fill their house, but are required to COB because their nationals make them (ADPi and AXO i know for sure). Anyways, my argument is the COB process is just as fair as fall recruitment. Some girls come in knowing everything about greek life, they already have friends or older sisters vouching for them inside. Some girls go through and know absolutely nothing and come in with no recs at all. Houses that look at recs already "target" the girls they want when they walk through the door. Same thing in COB. An initiate gives the house her friend's name and the house does research before hand to see if she's a good fit (grades, involvement, etc). The only difference between COB and formal rush is the fact that in formal you're trying to fill an entire 80+ girl pc, and in COB there may only be a few spots. In order to save time and energy it just makes sense for a chapter to go by "word of mouth" instead of interviewing hundreds of girls. I would be extremely intimidated knowing that there were 100 girls rushing and only 3 spots. Can you imagine the amount of hopefuls getting their hearts broken?
