I think the determinant for a top house can be quantified: they are the houses that have far more PNMs wanting to come back during rush than the house can possibly accommodate, so it is the sorority that does the selecting from a very large pool. That's why it is said that ChiO, PiPhi, Theta, ADPi and, perhaps, TriDelt are considered top houses. That's not to say that the other houses aren't quality houses where members can have fun and make lifelong friends, but they just aren't as selective. That's also why the aforementioned top houses have a distinct identity, because they choose the PNMs who are the best fit rather than just taking who is available. Also explains why they are among the most diverse. It has been said 100 times on this site, though, that the worst houses at Mizzou would compete with the best houses at other campuses. That is because our strong sorority system and its high standards attract outstanding women at every level. I, for one, think every sorority member should wear their letters proudly.
