Judging from a couple of these comments, some of these people haven’t mentally left high school. The honest answer is that yes, it seems like once a house is a “top house” it’ll stay that way for years. The same few houses are always the “top” but that is because they have been around longer, stronger nationals, have more alumna and funding. There is a definite plus side to being on the top, you get to pick who you want in your house. However, this system sets it up so that the newer houses can barely attempt to grow. Why does mizzou continue to place new houses on campus, when it seems like they are doomed from the start? Many have issues retaining girls after the first few years, why add houses when some have issues keeping girls? Being a legacy will not get you far in recruitment, but it does make you stand out in the first round or so. The real issue for people out of state is not knowing people, but that can be a blessing or a curse depending on the situation.
