I am from out of state (East Coast) and chose Mizzou in part because of the Greek scene. Since I didn't know even one person when I came here I thought it would be a great way to make lasting friends. My dream is to do magazine design and the J-School program is the best place to learn that. My mother, sister and grandmother were in sororities, but they don't have their chapters on this campus so I wasn't a legacy. I was amazed at how friendly and welcoming every house was during formal and I was thrilled at the results. I got my top choice but really would have been proud to join any of the last 5 or 6 as the week went on. So, no I wasn't a legacy but I was still chosen by top houses every step of the way. I had great grades/ACTs/activities, but doesn't everyone going through recruitment. I also didn't have any friends here to put in a good word for me, but that didn't seem to hurt. I think recruitment is quite fair and it's not just about legacies. I also thank God for this place. I really feel as if I am right where I should be.
