It is not all bad too wait. By being on campus you can get to know people and more about the houses so you can have a better understanding where you may want to be. You may have an opportunity for spring but not every house always participates. Can keep your options open and if something looks good in spring you can explore it if not go through formal next year. Just make sure your grades are great, etc.
