A couple of years ago, one of my pledge brothers had some physical injuries and alcohol poisoning caused by a hazing incident. Thankfully, he recovered! Amazingly, he didn't drop but stayed and was initiated. He, and some others in our class, became sort of the "conscience" for our house. But unfortunately, we weren't able to prevail and change the ethos of our house. Today, we're among those who may be on the chopping block. Change for the better in Mizzou fraternities isn't impossible but it's going to take more than a handful of guys in each house functioning as their chapter's "conscience". It's going to take a majority to affect needed and meaningful change. As unwanted as it may be, tough and far-reaching University and national fraternity disciplinary action could be what ultimately brings necessary change.
