I've said this before and gotten dragged for it, but it's worth repeating: informal is a great option that if chapters can take, they should. It let's them hand pick amazing women who might have slipped through the cracks during recruitment or who didn't rush but became interested. It financially supports a house (and don't buy the BS that "good houses don't need the money"; everyone in the chapter benefits from larger budgets). I think more and more chapters are coming around to the idea. Additionally, since PHA made it mandatory to list yourselves, a lot of "secret" informal bidding was outed and the stigma went away. I don't know how many chapters will be having open informals and how many will just be inviting friends - I just know that I'm proud as a PHA women that more and more chapters are realizing what a great opportunity COBing is!
