When I went through recruitment, I didn't know about the RFM method (which creates the tiers). I was told recruitment was a mutual selection between girl and sorority. During the week, I had a no choice and ended up with lower tier houses and chose not to accept a bid. I was upset that people told me that with my grades and activities and friends in houses I would have no problems getting any tier house. I chose not to go through my sophomore year because I heard none of the sororities take upperclassman. Something every PNM should be aware.
