Nursing can be very demanding. So are the classes for those aiming for med school or vet school or law school or even journalism school where gpa is important. Plus lots of women don't know how great the sororities are here at Mizzou until they get here -- esp. from out of state. There are lots of reasons girls don't go through rush before 1st semester of their freshman year. Unfortunately, that still is the best time to go through rush. The second best time is in August before sophomore year. Standards are a little different: your grades must be high in order to get into a good house -- but just a 3.4 or above. And you must have some involvement and volunteering in college. But it still is difficult to make it into a top house. Some will only take 4-5 sophomores. BUT, the good news is that middle tier and below will take more sophomores, and those sisterhoods are often outstanding. Plus going through formal rush is always superior to informal because you get to see ALL of the houses and make a more informed decision rather than just considering a house where you already know someone. I don't know about you, but I sure don't want to join a house that's full of kids I knew in high school. College is for meeting new people and expanding your horizons, right?
