College is where you can take classes in business, science, math, the arts, and discover careers you never knew existed. It might work for some to take a year or two off, but for me, that would have meant working full-time at an entry level job, and living at home or trying to make ends meet, not travelling (alone?) and finding myself. I feel like I would be exposed to fewer options in the "real world" than I am in college. Some people need a breather after high school, though. To each his own. You can't say either way is right.
