Lacking Logic explained it perfectly. Your dues don't just go toward being able to wear your letters. Your sorority house, just like any other home needs money to be kept up like utilities, maintenance, house keeping and property tax. You also pay for your food service and chef (some chapters give new members as many meals as in house girls and some chapters only give a certain amount per week to new members). You also pay for social events which are quite expensive (homecoming and greekweek). Then you have national dues which fund the national headquarters. The part of your dues that go toward philanthropy aren't actually directly used as donations, but used to fund events the members of chapter hold to raise money. We are very passionate about our philanthropies and we fundraise and donate as much as we literally can. Trust me your dues will be put in the best use.
