Totally agree! I came to Mizzou from the other side of the country without knowing anyone and had no connections. I remember a girl from STL in my Pi Chi group made so many nasty comments about certain chapters, but I didn't let her words sway me. I chose the chapter I felt most at home at... at the time, it was referred to as "bottom" and the other two at pref were mid and top. I was so nervous that I was going against the grain, but I trusted my gut because it was the only place I had cried and felt so comfortable consistently all week. It ended up being my dream sorority and I have grown so much because of my chapter and the women in it. I honestly think there is an advantage to coming in from out of state. No one can judge you because they don't know anything about you yet! I would say that recommendations help, though I didn't have a rec for the chapter I pledged. For instance, I thought I had NO chance at Tri Delt but went through the entire week there, probably in part because I had strong recs. It wasn't the right chapter for me but I felt so special while I was there. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!! Recruitment is the best week ever!!
