You could have had the courage to say Pi Phi instead of beating around the bush. Also literacy is very important, more specifically, health literacy. A lot of people in the US, especially from the older generations, didn't graduate from high school, and at best maybe have a 7th or 8th grade reading level. Now when you go to the hospital and your physician hands you paper work and pamphlets, which clearly won't be the simplest read, and you aren't as literate as an adult should be will you properly understand your diagnosis or treatments as best as you could? No. Literacy is also important in terms of signing contracts and agreements with full understanding. This issue may not have a direct effect on the lives of people, but poor literacy makes life increasingly more difficult in today's world and combating it is important too. At the end of the day philanthropy is about taking steps to help fix an issue to better the community, it should matter what the philanthropy is.
