To the ignorant trolls who posted: "that occurs mainly in poor countries where reading isn't going to really get them far" and who called the effort toward literacy a "really random cause," your white privilege is showing. Literacy is important in every country among every income level. You can fight your way out of negative circumstances unless you know how to read. Or perhaps you just think poor people should know their place and stay there. And while the philanthropy on our campus focuses on literacy right here in the good old U.S. of A, shame on you for not recognizing the problem and for not wanting to help eliminate it.
