Dear Sister/OP you are correct and I have seen this happen not only in my house but also in several sororities here. Considering the pledge classes are extremely big, the girls tend to gather in smaller groups the first year and form a bond. It would be way to difficult to get to know over 300 girls at once. Don't worry though, once she lives in the house she will get to know the girls that live in the house also, if she makes an effort of course. Actually what Mizzou needs are about 5-8 more sororities!! There are many bigger universities that don't have the house numbers we have here.
