I am a senior Theta. Yes, the girl who wrote this was a member of my sorority, and I have no hard feelings towards her, but this is not how my experience has been in my house nor has it been the same for the vast majority of other girls. When there are 400+ girls, people are naturally going to break off into smaller groups. It just makes it easier to get to know people. I'm sorry, but there's no feasible way for all 400 of us to hang out together at one time. Being in a sorority is what you make of it. It doesn't gurantee you automatic friends. At the beginning, it's easy. Everyone is looking for friends when they've just moved to a strange new place and they're surrounded by all these new people, but if you don't try to maintain those superficial relationships, they won't last or develop into something more meaningful. I've seen it happen many times through my four years as a Theta in many different sororities--not just my own. Girls don't come to the house or go to swaps or date parties or even hang out with their sisters after the "pledging" period is over and those superficial friendships you made when you were desparetly trying to fit in go away. Girls end up dropping because they are over a year in and they don't have any "real" friends because it's much harder to try to make friends when friendships have already formed. That's just the facts of life. It happens in every house at UA, and it also happens outside of sororities.
