Okay, I'm going to play devil's advocate here and not crucify you for the tier comment. First of all, there are many factors that go into how "old row" houses choose their pledge class: looks, knowing girls in the house, where you are from, and how good your resume is. Keep in mind that you don't necessarily need all of these qualities perfectly, but probably more than one, and coming in with no connections whatsoever will probably cut a lot of old row houses for you. It certainly did for me, and I got a bid from what you would probably consider to be a "lower tier" house, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My chapter is full of beautiful, smart, compassionate, funny, and driven young women that I am so proud to call my sisters. Please don't write houses off based on imaginary rankings. Secondly, everyone is worried about the actives not liking them. That's normal, but unless you are outright rude to them, I promise this will not be an issue. (Also, please know that getting a cut from a house isn't always personal. We can only take so many girls, so being dropped doesn't mean that the girls you talked to didn't like you.) Finally, yes, racism is a big issue in the greek system. Though you will certainly meet some people who have been taught those old, hateful views, I was surprised by how open minded and progressive our student body is as a whole.
