I don't know you and there are many reasons you seem to be set on Alabama (close to home/family, tradition etc) but I also would chime in with some other posters here, and say that with your qualifications, please don't limit yourself in college choices. With your grades and accomplishments, you can apply (and get in) to a bunch of great colleges that offer not only academic scholarships, but have strong financial aid programs for middle class families. This could free up money for your family to pay your dues. However, if you choose to stick with UA, working to pay your dues is not that hard, though I go to a school where all the sororities offer both merit and need based financial aid, I am not a recipient of financial aid and pay my own dues because my parents are not really supportive of my membership in a sorority. You just need to stay focused and have good time management skills, and of course, budgeting skills. This is definitely something you should talk about with your parents. On a side note, it makes me a little sad that some of the advice here is to hide your financial situation to increase your chances of receiving a bid. I guess if that's what you have to do, that's what you have to do but it is a sad reminder to me that not all places value socioeconomic diversity as much as where I am from and where I go to school. :( good luck with senior year! don't worry too much now :)
