Alabama pnms, actives, and alumni have caused this mess by bragging about how “competitive and exclusive” their rush is compared to northern and western schools all over social media. If members of Alabama chapters had more discretion, there would be no interest in Alabama rush whatsoever, but because they act like its a spectacle and broadcast it everywhere, people are going to watch. Not to mention, if national chapters did punish pnms who posted, there would be more outcry. Look at the tantrum over sororoties cutting Morgan because of tiktok (although we all know that is only one factor). Now, imagine if the many OR and Zeta girls who posted during rush were blacklisted. People would view national chapters as overbearing and paternalistic. If chapters wanted to, they could stop talking girls who post on tiktok, but other than AXO and KKG this year, every sorority has taken girls who “blew up” on tiktok. Or, Bama PanHel could make the decision. It’s telling that they have chosen not to. Despite all of the moaning about intrusions of privacy, it’s clear that chapters on campus enjoy the status of having the “most competitive rush” in the nation. Proof of this: the same chapters who cut girls for posting on tiktok fire up the algorithm every year by posting welcome week dance videos hash tagged “bama rush.” There are schools where multiple billionaires rush a year. You don’t see them blowing up on TT despite their outfits being more luxurious than Bama’s. Fact of the matter is PNMs and chapters have a choice. These are college students. They are old enough to live with the consequences of making a completely optional decision to film their rush process. Most of them end up completely fine anyway after rush dies down. So many girls who “blew up” on rushtok in past years have matriculated normally into their sororities and even now hold leadership positions. It really isn’t the dire situation you make it out to be unless you are the annual “target” of this website and tiktok (Morgan, Kylan, Mikalya, DollyParton girl). You should just be glad this is caused people to view sororities positively when many northern and western schools have banned greek life altogether.
