It mainly has to do with the factors that overall people think are important: grades, social calendar, UA involvement, looks, who has the most sought after PNM's and what most PNM's consider the most sought after houses. The houses at the top of the ranks usually have a good combination of all of the above, and then it just goes down from there. Doesn't mean bottom tier houses are not good - they are - just maybe not as well rounded as some that are consistently at the top of the ranks. Of course every rank is debatable, which is what makes the world go 'round on this site. Some houses are new (SK) and building their reputations and who they want to be. Some houses absolutely strive for perfection and are extremely picky during rush (AXO, AGD, DDD, XO). Some houses know they won't be as well rounded with grades/involvement, and focus on looks and social agenda (ZTA, PM, APhi, GPhi), and some houses love their uniqueness, love their diversity of their membership and are happy with who/where they are (Theta, DG, DZ). This doesn't cover all of them, but know that every sorority at UA has something to offer. Don't build up too many pre-conceived notions before going into Rush. Let each house show you who they are, and just try and present your best self during rush. That's the best way to find your new home.
