This may be technically true. But MOST people consider old row sororities - AXO, XO, KKG, KD, DDD, PM and AGD. These are not the oldest sororities on campus. There are many twists and turns that brought this list about - including the “Budweiser sponsorship” era that some one mentioned. But is generally considered as old row sororities. These houses are currently most notable for having traditional strength in recruitment amongst Alabama girls and close by southern states. This history includes attracting the the girls form the “better” Alabama areas (and those with wealth and good taste/manners) and socializing with the fraternities with the boys from these areas. This tradition holds in some ways but also has been overturned by the realities of today. Manners and good taste aren’t what they used to be, wealthy students come to Bama from far and wide, and the boys in the Old Row fraternities have competition and their desirability can be debated. And while there is a new game in town, these Old row branded houses are still a mark of distinction among some.
