This is something I didn’t notice until I was getting ready, as an active, to be on the other side. All those color coordinated outfits that look so “together” as you’re being recruited? They are there to dazzle you. Yeah, you will be expected to do the same once it’s your turn on the other side. There are some houses that might look more “relaxed” regarding this. PNM’s, take note!! It’s not that those houses don’t care about making an amazing impression- they do care. They just don’t care to stress out their current actives more than having them buy one t-shirt every year and a dress to wear for every pref over the next 3 years. I’ve had friends and roommates in other houses that have to send pictures ( sometimes actually on their body for a better look) each summer before workshops to their recruitment team before they buy clothes and shoes. And, houses change up some of the themes/ colors each year so it’s an every year/ new dresses thing. The only cost savings you get in those houses is it is acceptable to wear that outfit/ dress for both days, but a decent number of girls swap dresses so they feel like they are wearing a new dress ( even if it’s just new to them). The only girls that get out of all this buying are the ones that work in the back doing administrative duties. Houses usually give those jobs to upperclassman, girls that have a summer internship, or have a medical reason for not standing all day.
